Demolition makes way for parking in Cedar Rapids

Workers with Midwest Demolition Contractors, Inc., demolish the former Citywide Cleaners, 838 First Ave. NE, in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday. The company is also demolishing buildings at 834 and 836 First Ave. NE. Those buildings most recently housed Mamacitas Taco Pub and La Casita Breakfast Cafe, respectively. UnityPoint Health purchased the three buildings as well as a building in the 800 block of A Avenue NE. The hospital plans to use the space to expand its valet service and general parking capacity for its Medical Office Plaza. (Jim Slosiarek/The Gazette)
